io9 has a post about trying to locate a scifi book with this list of pretty standard scifi fare—primitive civ with less primitive civ/technology aka magic, etc, etc. Who cares; it’s not Iain M. Banks. But this part, right here, is just pure genius:

Of course someone has to bring up Clarke’s law:
