Blogging about tweeting

I don’t know why I keep posting about Twitter. I suspect it’s mostly because I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.

My question is this: If the average number of followers is under 30 (we’ll say 10-40) and a lot of the tweeters are things like Treehugger or some blog/media outlet/cause that will automatically follow you if you follow them, how many of the followers are actually reading anything you wrote? Dude, it’s like if you clap in a forest — if you tweet to auto tweeters, can anyone hear it?

Also, I am confused as to the utility of dropping and refollowing someone every few days. Which led me to another conundrum — in casual speech/writing, how on earth am I supposed to characterize the particular follower (female) without a) demeaning her or b) ignoring my decidedly feminist leanings? You can’t say girl, lady, apoco-babe, chick, etc, without offending someone. I guess I’ll stick with person of the feminine persuasion, although gender != sex so that’s just a whole other can of worms.

Tweeting makes my head hurt. The echoes from all that shouting into vast empty spaces, I guess.
