I got all excited for nothing

I finally caught a twitter error  and this is what I got:

twitter_errorThis is not the fail whale! I am bitterly disappointed. I might have to stop with the tweeting. That and someone at work did a little cyber stalking and found me. I think that, yes, stating that I work with some folks who believe 2+2=5 may not be the nicest thing to say, but dude, seriously, anyone who believes that you cannot use an HTML combobox on a webpage hosted on a UNIX server does not have the strongest grip on reality (the trick here is that somehow HTML is more of a Windows thing, right? and, even better, we had sites with comboboxes on them running on a UNIX server for over a year!). And the people that repeatedly, despite all evidence to the contrary, continue to ask said individual for advice or programming work on complex web-based projects are living in a dream world.

I suspect that ‘2+2=5’ is not the most accurate metaphor for this situation, but the whole 140 characters thing played a role and I’m always a sucker for nerdy math fun. It was in 1984 (Orwells) as a thought experiment — sort of the mass delusion situation that quickly turns into the propaganda situation. So basically, my point was that in the world of office politics and gendered interactions, I work with people who can believe in wackaloonery at least in some parts of their lives, but particularly when it comes down to siding with a person with junk in their pants over a person without. Surprise! So maybe it is more appropriate than I thought.

And it is also vaguely appropriate on May Day since it was a slogan for the communist Russian 5 year plan situation for the growth of industry. At the risk of being tarred and feathered, I will say that I don’t have objections to injecting a little more of the community/communal ethos around here. We are not even remotely close to a socialist society in the states; there’s a difference between communism and stalinism and even the eastern & western versions of communism; and “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts” idiom springs to mind.

Oh dear, I’m blogging about tweeting. Damn, but I wasn’t going to do that. I’m sorry, blogonauts.
